Moving organization - April 18, 2020

So, you are stuck in the middle of a pandemic and you want to move from NYC to Boston. What are you supposed to do? Should you simply settle in and wait until the pandemic is over? While this is definitely advisable, it is not always possible. So, what if you absolutely need to move from New York to Boston, even though a full-blown pandemic is going on? Well, while moving from NYC to Boston in the middle of a pandemic is definitely not easy, it is possible. You just need to know what you are doing and start preparing on time.

How to stay safe

Safety should be your number one priority, whenever you are leaving New York and settling down elsewhere. After all, what good are all the preparations and careful planning, if you end up hurting either yourself or someone helping you. Now it is important to understand that every pandemic has different safety regulations and official safety recommendations. Therefore, the first thing we are going to tackle is the safety requirements for moving during the current COVID-19 pandemic.

If you plan on moving from NYC to Boston in the middle of a pandemic, you need to take every safety measure.

In order to avoid coronavirus, there are a couple of measures that you need to implement:

  • Wear a mask – These masks do not serve to protect you but to protect other people from you.
  • Wash your hands regularly – Ideally, you will carry a hand sanitizer with you and disinfect whenever possible. But, if this is not an option, wash your hands at every opportunity.
  • Practice social distancing – While you are preparing for your relocation try to do as much as you can on your own. When working with other people, try to maintain a safe distance and to wear masks and gloves.
  • Limit the number of people that drive with you – The drive from NYC to Boston should be a lonely one. The fewer of you can be in the same car, the better.

Prepare for moving from NYC to Boston in the middle of the pandemic

Right of the bat, you need to understand that this is no regular relocation. Even though people move from New York to Boston quite regularly, the circumstances you are in, make the relocation complicated and difficult. Therefore, in order to handle this relocation you need to understand your situation and adapt to it properly.

Finding the right movers

In order to deal with moving from NYC to Boston in the middle of a pandemic, you will need to have reliable movers at your side. So, don’t focus too much on finding the cheapest ones. Remember, you need someone who can prepare and organize your relocation in a limited amount of time. And, they need to adhere to all the travel regulations that the state is implementing. Therefore, focus on experienced reliable movers that can reliably deal with moving from New York to Boston.

Even if there wasn’t any pandemic going on, you would still need reliable movers in order to move from NYC to Boston.

Start by looking online for local movers. Make sure to check out their reviews and to get online moving estimates from sites like movage-moving.com. Then, try to filter out the top ones and contact them. Unfortunately, you won’t have much time to pick and choose between various movers. So stick with the ones that seem most competent and reliable.

Organize moving from NYC to Boston in the middle of a pandemic

Once you find your movers, you need to organize moving from NYC to Boston in the middle of a pandemic with them. This will require them to send a company representative that will give you an on-site estimate and to outline the basics of your moving plan. The details of your plan will depend on the current state of traffic and travel regulations. So, try to move as quickly as possible in order to avoid changes. Also, ensure that you have a decent moving budget in order to handle this relocation. Know that last-minute moves are always expensive. But, also keep in mind that hiring movers for such relocation is a must.

Packing supplies

One thing that you can deal with by yourself is packing. So, the first thing to do is to get moving supplies. Our advice is to first make an inventory list. That way you will know how much packing supplies to get and what size of packing containers you’ll need.

Both packing and unpacking will be much easier if you have an inventory list to check.

In essence, there are two places where you can get decent packing supplies. You can either visit your local moving company. Or, you can head on to the local DIY store. Whichever you chose, ensure that you have the best possible supplies. Know that the quality of your packing supplies will determine the safety of your entire move. And that the last thing you need is for one of your boxes to fly open during relocation. So, do not place yourself and your items in unnecessary risk and get quality packing supplies. Also, do yourself a favor and get some extra supplies. That way you will have enough to deal with any mistakes or unforeseen circumstances.

Proper packing

Once that is done, you will have to deal with the packing. You can opt for letting your movers deal with the packing. But, you will have to ensure their safety while they do so. Therefore, if you opt to pack yourself with the packing supplies you’ve acquired, here is what to do:

  • Wrap fragile items with wrapping supplies in order to ensure their safety.
  • Place items in properly sized boxes so that they fit comfortably and do not move around.
  • Keep in mind that even the vibrations from the truck can damage your items. So, ensure that no fragile items are in direct contact.
  • Tape up your boxes carefully.
  • Place proper labels on them so that anyone handling them will know whether the content is heavy and/or fragile.
  • Use padding supplies when loading up your boxes so that they do not move around in the truck.
