Moving organization - February 24, 2021

It goes without saying that moving is a stressful and complicated process. And, as such, many things can go wrong. In some cases, it will be the moving company’s fault, and in some cases, it may be the third party’s fault. Things can get broken, lost, misplaced, etc. You may be overcharged, or the entire move may be delayed, for one reason or another. As you can see, when moving, a lot of things can go wrong. But, whatever happens, take a deep breath and try to resolve the situation peacefully. In most cases, everything will work out in the end. However, there will be cases when movers will simply refuse to cooperate. And, this is when disputes start. But, do not worry, there is a solution for that too! Thus, if you want to find out how to handle disputes with movers, keep on reading.

Find a Good Moving Company In the First Place

If you want to ensure that your move goes as stress-free and as disputes-free as possible, you should hire a reliable moving company in the first place. Decide what kind of move you will need (local, interstate, senior, family move, etc., for example), and then look for a moving company that suits your needs and budget. Remember that finding the best option is crucial! That is why you must do thorough research and a thorough background check.

Do research on everything – the company’s website, social media accounts, comments section, blog, etc. Once you find a company you like, meet the movers in person. Do not forget to ask them about their negative moving experiences, and of course, ask them how they solved them. If you do your research ahead of time and hire a reliable moving company, you will not have to worry about finding ways to handle moving disputes later on.

If The Movers Do Not Cooperate, File a Complaint

We hire movers for one reason – to help us with our family relocation, or any other type of relocation. But, if you made a mistake and hired a moving company that is inexperienced and simply not willing to cooperate, you should file a complaint as soon as possible! Do not wait for them to fix the problem by themselves, maybe that day will never come. However, if you are not quite sure whether to file a complaint or not, let us help you. Here are the scenarios where you should definitely file a complaint:

  • Overcharging – if you get a bill that is quite bigger than the one you agreed upon, you have every right to file a complaint! But, before you do, be sure to read the contract once again.
  • Lost and damaged belongings – this one is really straightforward, do not even think twice about filing a complaint if you notice that some of your belongings are damaged and lost. After all, that is why you hired professional movers – to make sure that your items arrive safely at your new address.
  • Late pickup and delivery -if the movers stated a certain date and time for pickup and delivery and then they do not show up, call them first and see what is going on. If there is not a good reason for their lateness, you know what to do.

Handling Disputes With Movers Who Are Willing to Cooperate

The good news is that most moving companies will be willing to cooperate, so do not start looking for ways to handle disputes with movers just yet. First, call them or go to their office, and explain the problem. Remember to stay calm! For instance, ask them politely why are they late with preparing your car for relocation and when can they start. Keep in mind that mistakes happen all the time and that this particular mistake could be nobody’s fault. If you are polite and well-mannered, both you and your moving company will soon find the best possible solution for your problem. If you just run into their office screaming and yelling, you can cause even more problems and disputes. So, stay collected and think on the bright side – everything can be resolved.

Handling Disputes With Movers Who Are Not Willing to Cooperate

Professional movers are there to help you avoid seatbacks with good preparation and to ensure your move goes as stress-free as possible. And, as previously said, even with their presence, moving problems might occur. In most cases, your movers will be able to cooperate with you and fix them quickly and properly. But, if the movers are simply not willing to cooperate? Well, then, a dispute is bound to happen. First, you have to file a complaint! Afterward, reach out to the following companies and seek advice:

  • The American Moving and Storage Association
  • Federal Motor Career Safety Organization
  • Better Business Bureau
  • The State Regulatory Agency

All these companies and agencies above have a lot of experience handling disputes with movers. So, do not worry about being the only one. Contact them as soon as you realize that you can not meet ‘halfway’ with your movers, or when you notice that your movers are not doing their part of the deal.

Make Sure You Have the Best Moving Insurance

As mentioned in the beginning, if you want to have a smooth move, you must make sure you hire a reliable and trustworthy moving agency. But, that is not all – you must all also make sure you have the best moving insurance! With a combination of these two, you will not be looking for ways to handle disputes with movers, not now, nor ever. Moving insurance is there, as the word suggests, to insure you. Whatever happens, you will get a refund. Thus, whether you are preparing for a long-distance move, or a move just around the corner, start with getting the insurance first. Having insurance will guarantee a stress-free moving experience.
