Should you and your roommate move in the same day

Home » Should you and your roommate move in the same day

Moving in guides - October 18, 2021

Living with a roommate has plenty of pros. Splitting the bills in half is the best thing to do. But moving in with a roommate is going to be difficult. Especially if you are moving at the same time into the home. Moving is a messy task. It is complex and it takes a lot of time. Unpacking belongings sounds easy but it is the hardest part of the process. This is why we have decided to write this article discussing whether you should move in the same day as your roommate. We believe that there is a better way to deal with this situation and we are here to tell you exactly that. There are a lot of things that make moving in the same day as your roommate a bad idea and we are here to explain.

Movers won’t be able to do their job

When moving, hiring movers is a must. They make moving so much easier. Not only that, they are able to make the moving process last a very short period of time as they are professionals. Moving with the assistance of professional movers makes relocation safer. Lifting and carrying heavy boxes and furniture can lead to an injury.

Movers will be able to work much easier if there aren’t plenty of them at once.

If you and your roommate move in the same day and you are both hiring movers, they will not be able to do their job as fast as they would if only one of you were moving in. This means that the moving process will last a bit longer for both of you therefore it will be more expensive. So, avoid moving in on the same day if you want to have as affordable of a move as that is possible.

The home will be very messy

If both you and your roommate move in the same day, your home will be a mess for days. Unpacking is a long process. If there are two of you unpacking, it is only going to take a lot of time and it will be much harder to finish it all easily. And if there is more than just the two of you moving in, it is going to be an even bigger mess.

You will unpack more easily by moving in one at a time.

This is another reason why you should avoid moving in at the same time. It is much better for one person to move in first, unpack, and then the second one can do so without an issue as well. This way, cleaning up will also be easier. After you both unpack, then you can start reorganizing the apartment the way you like it to be. If you were to unpack at the same time, doing this would be harder as well.

Moving is stressful

Moving is very stressful and if there are two of you moving in at the same time, it can result in conflict. This is not something you need on your first day of living together.
