How to prepare for your long distance move
Moving organization - July 16, 2019
How will your long distance move turn out doesn’t depend on your moving day, but on how you prepare for it. Not to say that moving day isn’t stressful, but the more you prepare for your long distance move, the smoother everything will turn out. There are many things that need to be done, so you might feel overwhelmed at times. But, do not worry. There is a solution for everything. Let us divide everything into smaller tasks so you can conquer them one at a time. This way you will feel much better and confident once you start managing them.
Do you really need to take everything with you?
Of course, you do not need to move everything with you, especially if you are moving long distance. This is one of the biggest challenges when you need to prepare for your long distance move. Do your best to be realistic. Things that you haven’t used in months and years do not need to accompany you to your new home. You have a few options that you should consider. If you are extremely uncertain about some belongings, you can rent a storage space and leave them there for now.
Otherwise, you can donate stuff to Goodwill or sell them. Also, you can organize a yard or a garage sale and get some extra money for your moving budget.

Will you hire professional help or will you do it on your own?
If you want to prepare for your long distance move, you must decide will you move on your own or will you hire the professionals to do that for you. Even though hiring professional help for a long distance move can be expensive, we truly recommend it. There are so many regulations and details that you just cannot know on your own. On the other hand, professionals will have more experience and they will know how to deal with unforeseen circumstances. If you do decide to hire professional assistance for your move, you can start asking moving companies to provide you with a free estimate of the moving costs. That way, you can compare companies and ultimately make the best decision for yourself.
Start packing ASAP
This doesn’t mean that you should randomly start packing everything in sight. You must have a packing plan if you want to properly prepare for your long distance move. First, you should start packing things that you are not using and that you will not need until you move to your new residence. For example, since it is summertime, pack your winter clothes and other things you will not wear before your move. The last thing you want is packing right before moving day.

Keep in mind that we have barely scratched the surface. There is so much more to be done before you move. Hopefully, you now have an idea on how to prepare for your long distance move. Don’t forget that you also need to make an inventory list, inform everybody that you are moving, provide your new address to all interested parties, make arrangements for your kids and pets, etc. You have a lot to do, so start working immediately.
